UB Spotlight: Emerging Lee Vasi Talks ‘GPS’ + Christian R&B

Lee Vasi is an Atlanta-based Christian R&B artist.

Originally from Fayetteville, NC, Lee grew up singing with her siblings and performing in theater productions. Her Puerto Rican-Dominican and African American heritage exposed her to a wealth of music genres from a young age, which inspired her to share her experiences through music.

Last year, Lee captured widespread attention with her hit single, “Teach Me,” which went viral on both IG and TikTok before its official release. The song received global recognition, marking Lee’s debut on the Billboard charts with a remarkable #2 on the Gospel Digital Song Sales chart and #21 on Hot Gospel Songs.

Her new single, “GPS,” is in support of the California wildfires.

In the single, Lee beautifully expresses her desire for divine guidance, as she sings, “If I take the first step, Lord, could you lead me the rest of the way…” It serves as a simple reminder that God is always in control and has the power to guide us out of our darkest moments.

UrbanBridgez.com: Tell us about your new song “GPS,” what made you want to release it now?
Lee Vasi: My new single GPS is all about finding direction when life feels uncertain. It’s a reminder that, just like a GPS guides you, God’s love is always there to help you find your way. The melody came to me in the middle of the night, and I felt it was divinely inspired.

As I recorded the voice memo, I also got the reminder that I don’t always need to know everything ahead of time—I just have to take the first step and trust God to lead me. That voice memo became a key part of the production, and I wanted the song to feel both personal and anthemic. Releasing it at the start of the year felt perfect, since it’s a time when we’re all thinking about new beginnings and goals. GPS encourages us to let go of control and trust God’s timing to guide us forward into the new year with purpose.

UrbanBridgez.com: With the viral success of “Teach Me,” you’ve gained a lot of new fans. Were you surprised by the success of “Teach Me?”
Lee Vasi: Honestly, I was definitely surprised, but also so grateful. When I released Teach Me, I wasn’t expecting it to blow up the way it did. I knew it was a song that meant a lot to me personally, but you never really know how people are going to respond to a track, especially when it comes to something as vulnerable as that.

It’s all about growth, and Teach Me was a reflection of where I was in my faith journey and my relationship—seeking understanding, asking for guidance. The response was overwhelming in the best way, though. You never really expect something like that, but I believe the timing was right, and it was God’s plan. It was a reminder that when you stay true to your heart and your message, people will gravitate towards it, especially if it speaks to where they are in their own lives. So, I’m just thankful to see how it’s helped bring my music to more people and allowed me to sharemy testimony with a wider audience.

UrbanBridgez.com: How would you describe your style of Christian R&B?
Lee Vasi: My sound is all about creating a space where people can reflect, heal, and grow spiritually through a mix of R&B and Latin sonics, with Gospel-centered lyrics. I want to connect emotionally, but also inspire hope and strength in others, letting them know that no matter the struggle, God always leaves room for grace and redemption. It’s about making faith feel personal and relatable, with a sound that really reflects my experiences and love for music.

UrbanBridgez.com: What can fans expect from you in 2025?
Lee Vasi: For 2025, I’ve got a lot planned! More music is on the way—I’m working on new tracks that dive deeper into growth and personal stories, and I’m also really excited to experiment with some fresh sonics but still stay true to my heartfelt, faith-driven sound. I’m excited to do more shows, connect with people in-person, and bring the music to life with new visuals and behind-the-scenes content. There might even be some surprises along the way, so stay tuned. 2025 is all about growing, connecting, and sharing more of my heart!
