Films: Jamie Foxx Presents “Thunder Soul”
It was afros, pleated pants and platform shoes; James Brown, Sly Stone and Bootsy
Collins. It was the ’70s, and an inner-city Houston high school was about to make
history. Presented by Texas-native Jamie Foxx, THUNDER SOUL follows the
extraordinary alumni from Houston‘s storied Kashmere High School Stage Band, who
return home after 35 years to play a tribute concert for the 92-year-old Conrad
“Prof” Johnson, their beloved band leader who broke the color barrier and
transformed the school’s struggling jazz band into a world-class funk powerhouse
in the early 1970s.
THUNDER SOUL is endorsed by national arts education champions Americans for the
Arts Action Fund, and school districts around the nation. Texas Music Educators
Association (TMEA) Executive Director, Robert Floyd, describes THUNDER SOUL as “a
wonderful tool that will help us further convince students, educators, and policy
makers of music’s life-changing impact.”
THUNDER SOUL is directed by Mark Landesman. Producers are Landesman, Keith Calder
and Jessica Wu. Executive producers are Jamie Foxx and Jaime Rucker King.
Director of Photography is Sandra Chandler. Editor is Claire Didier. Sound
Editor is Andy Hay and music supervisors are Jim Black and Gabe Hilfer. THUNDER
SOUL features original music by Conrad O. Johnson, Sr.
Roadside Attractions will release THUNDER SOUL in theatres September 23, 2011.
