GMC TV, America’s favorite channel for uplifting music and family entertainment, presents the World Television Premiere of a powerful new gospel musical stage play, The Love You Save, starring Robin Givens (“House of Payne”), and gospel singing sensation Kierra Sheard (“The Preacher’s Kid”) in her television acting debut. A piercing tale of family, truth and forgiveness, GMC’s The Love You Save premieres on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2011 at 7 p.m. ET with encore broadcasts at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.
The latest in GMC’s original gospel music stage play series, The Love You Save is part of the network’s celebration of national Gospel Music Heritage Month, an initiative to recognize this unique American art form spearheaded by GMC and passed by the U.S. Senate and Congress in 2008.
Written by Johnnie C. Johnson Jr., The Love You Save tells the story of Alexis Benet (Givens), a materialistic workaholic who tries to use her money and social influence to control every aspect of her children’s lives. But when one of her bighearted children brings home a homeless man in an effort to convince her mother to help save a local shelter, Alexis is forced to acknowledge that the man is actually her estranged husband and the children’s father. As the truth surfaces, Alexis must answer for the choices she has made to get to the top and begins to question the sacrifices she’s made to live in the lap of luxury. The Love You Save cast also features Denyce Lawton (“House of Payne”), Sean Riggs (Changing the Game), Jill-Michele Melean (“MADtv”), and Kareem Grimes (Jarhead, “The Shield”).
“The Love You Save is a thought-provoking, hilarious and heartwarming celebration of forgiveness, love and family that we’re excited to share with our viewers,” said Leslie Chesloff, executive vice president of programming at GMC. “It embodies the type of entertainment we strive to bring to our growing subscriber base and this show is another successful addition to our very popular gospel musical stage play original programming.”
The Love You Save is the fourth in a series of gospel stage plays produced exclusively for broadcast on GMC, the only network producing the popular medium and bringing it to a broad television audience. The first original musical stage play in this popular series, Love Me or Leave Me, was launched on GMC TV in November 2010.
