It is the not-too-distant future and Earth is under new management. The planet’s new leaders – an exacting and quirky alien species called the Vuvv. They have brought with them wondrous, advanced technology that, while objectively impressive, renders most human jobs obsolete and leads to a collapsed economy, worldwide food shortages, poverty and desperation.

Like most of the world’s population, 17-year-old artist Adam Campbell (Asante Blackk) and his family – mom, Beth (Tiffany Haddish) and younger sister, Natalie (Brooklynn MacKinzie), are just trying to survive. They live in a suburban home in desperate need of repairs and Beth, a former lawyer, struggles to find any menial work.

The Campbells are also dealing with the desertion of their father and husband who left the family in an effort to find better work opportunities elsewhere. One day, Adam’s humdrum, high school student routine gets a boost from the arrival of new classmate Chloe Marsh (Kylie Rogers).

Sparks fly almost instantly and when Adam discovers the versatility and innovative vision for the project.

Like everyone now living under alien occupation, the Campbell family has had to adjust to a new normal with limited food, income and the emotional weight from the disappearance of a father and husband. They find comfort in each other and their individual pursuits.

In addition to worrying about their own existence, the Campbells‘ suddenly find themselves in the awkward position of housing Adam’s new girlfriend Chloe along with her anxious, insecure father (Josh Hamilton) and ungrateful, frustrated brother Hunter (Michael Gandolfini). The cohabitation leads to natural conflict between the two families.
