Coolio ‘Gangsta’s Paradise 25th Anniversary’ Re-release
2020 marks the 25th Anniversary of the release of Coolio’s pivotal and best-selling album, “Gangsta’s Paradise.” To celebrate the anniversary, Tommy Boy will re-release this critically-acclaimed album on 2xLP (180 gram, red vinyl) (In limited quantities) and on CD. The release will happen the day before Record Store Day, April 17th, 2020. UPDATE: The release date has been pushed to June 19th, 2020.
The album, originally released in 1995, produced three hit singles: the title track “Gangsta’s Paradise” (first used in the 1995 film Dangerous Minds, starring Michelle Pfeiffer), “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New)”, and “Too Hot.” The album received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, with lead-single “Gangsta’s Paradise”, taking home the Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance in 1996.
Certified 3x platinum by the RIAA in the US, the album’s three singles all went on to hit the Billboard Hot 100, with “Gangsta’s Paradise” hitting the #1 spot as well as many other pop charts around the world. Re-mastered from the original analog tapes by Joe LaPorta at Sterling Sound, the 25th anniversary release also features unreleased mixes of hit single, “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New)”. In addition to vinyl and CD, the re-mastered album will also be released digitally.
