Trey Songz Goes Gold & Hits The Road With Jay-Z

Listen to this article

“READY,” the Grammy Award-nominated third album from Songbook Entertainment/Atlantic recording artist Trey Songz, has been certified Gold by the RIAA for sales now exceeding 500,000. This marks the celebrated R&B singer’s first-ever album award certification.

Songz will commemorate the blockbuster success of “READY” as special guest on Jay-Z’s upcoming “BP3 Tour 2010.” The massive trek — which includes hugely anticipated shows at such legendary venues as New York’s Madison Square Garden — is set to begin on Saturday, February 20th at Fort Lauderdale’s Bank Atlantic Center, with dates then continuing through late March (see below itinerary).

The Prince of Virginia has been in the spotlight in recent weeks, with an array of activities including magazine covers, TV appearances, and star-studded recording sessions. Trey was among the superstars performing on Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones’ new version of “We Are The World,” benefiting Haitian earthquake relief organizations. The song/video — which also features such icons as Barbra Streisand, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, and Tony Bennett — had its world premiere last weekend as part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games’ opening ceremony. Trey was also among the participants in BET’s fundraising effort, SOS Saving Ourselves: Hope For Haiti, joining fellow stars like Mary J. Blige, Drake, Nas, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, and many others.

Proclaimed as the “The New R&B King” by USMAG.com, Trey recently made a very special “Love Week” appearance on BET’s “106 & Park,” performing a medley of his hits, including “Neighbors Know My Name,” “I Invented Sex,” and “Say Aah.” Earlier this month, Songz was among the stars performing on the annual BET Honors 2010, joining the one and only Stevie Wonder for stunning renditions of Stevie’s soul classic, “That Girl,” as well as his own smash, “I Invented Sex” which rocketed to #1 on the Urban Mainstream Radio Charts. What’s more, Trey — profiled in Jet’s February 15th cover story — was a featured guest on a recent installment of PBS’ “Tavis Smiley.”

Songz was named by Vibe.com as the “Best Dressed” star at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, where “READY” was among the nominees as “Best Contemporary R&B Album.” The acclaimed collection made a phenomenal chart debut upon its release last fall, entering Billboard’s “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” tally at #2. The album — which includes the hits “I Need A Girl,” “LOL :-) (Feat. Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em),” “Successful (Drake & Trey Songz),” “I Invented Sex,” and the current single, “Neighbors Know My Name” — also exploded into the #3 spot on the overall SoundScan/Billboard 200.

Trey’s latest release, a five-track EP titled “UP CLOSE & READY,” features new versions of some of his biggest hits, recorded live at New York City’s Clinton Studios. Among the highlights are intimate takes on such favorites as “One Love,” “I Need A Girl,” “Last Time,” “Gotta Go,” and the #1 classic, “Can’t Help But Wait.” As if all that weren’t enough, the EP — available at iTunes and all leading DSPs — features an all-new companion video for “One Love,” which serves as an ideal visual document of a live performer hailed by the New York Times for “transfix(ing) like no other R&B singer of the day.”
