Music of R&B Singer Suavé Now Available | Sentenced to Life In Prison
Late 80s and 90s R&B recording artist Suavé, who was born Waymond Anderson. Was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of R&B singer, Waymond Anderson, who was in the group, GQ.
Suavé sang in a church choir and started writing songs in his home studio. Inspired by the new jack swing style, he wrote his songs with that arrangement in mind.
During a New Edition concert in California, one of the members of the group invited him on stage to sing with them. At age 19, Suavé then signed a 7 album multi- million recording contract with Capitol Records.
In 1988 he released his debut single “My Girl,” a cover version of the Temptations classic. The single reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart. While the video stayed in heavy rotation on BET.
Suavé’s debut album “I’m Your Playmate” followed. Which charted, but didn’t reach the Billboard Top 50.
The follow-up single, “Shake Your Body” peaked at #22 on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart.
In 1999 he released his sophomore release “To The Maxx.” The lead single “Rocked Your Boots” was another video in heavy rotation on BET. However the single failed to even appear on the Billboard charts.
Until recently, both of his albums were unavailable. In November of last year “I’m Your Playmate” was re-released on streaming services and as of today, Suavé‘s “To The Maxx” is now available via Capitol.
This is great news for Suavé, who will now be able to receive royalties from UMG, as well as publishing being he wrote the songs on both albums. Both albums contain some great singles, so stream and download!
Suavé is currently serving a life sentence after being arrested for arson & murder, of a homeless man in Los Angeles on September 18th, 1993.
From the moment of his arrest, he has maintained his innocence. Since 2015 he has been suffering from Stage 4 Throat Cancer.
What makes this story so crazy, is he was actually in Jackson, MS when the murder took place. Plane tickets and a witness have confirmed that.
In 2007, he got himself involved in the Biggie murder case. After he did a deposition saying that he was offered a portion of any settlement if he testified that former police Officer Rafael Perez, told him that another ex-police officer, David Mack, was involved.
The following month, he would recant his statements. “It was a lie, and I’m ashamed of it,” Suavé stated at the time.
In 2017 he started a petition for his release. That petition is now closed.
