Sounds of Blackness Release ‘Get Off Ya Hands & Vote!’
Ahead of The Midterm Elections.
A day after federal agents raided Ilhan Omar‘s home in Minnesota, we share the legendary Sounds of Blackness new single, “Get Off Ya Hands and Vote” ahead of the midterm elections.
SOB are using their music to encourage people to head to the polls.
The three-time Grammy-winning group got its start more than five decades ago and has built a career around music centered on hope, resilience and civil rights.

“Every single vote counts. It’s crucial and critical, so that’s why we titled the song ‘Get Off Ya Hands and Vote,’” Gary stated.
The new song continues the group’s long tradition of using music to address social issues and encourage people to get involved in their communities.
“It’s laced with and motivated by and fueled by ancestor energy”
Gary describes Sounds of Blackness, as making “the music of the culture and about the movement.”

UB spoke to Gary Hines is 2011 and asked him then, what did he want the Sounds of Blackness legacy to be? “I want it to continue to be what it’s been and that’s first and foremost, by glorifying God by lifting people everywhere through the music of the African American experience.”
Gary continued; “To put it in one sentence, To glorify God by lifting all people through black music. That’s our legacy oppose to just one style of music, we bring the family of African American Music. We tell people all time for example, you can’t fully appreciate the glory Hallelujah of gospel, without the pain of the blues, spirituals, work songs and field hollers. That’s all apart of our testimony as a people. So it’s our job to bring that full testimony to people everywhere and they can relate to that and are encouraged by that. So we want our legacy to continue to be one of glorifying God by inspiring and motivating, encouraging people everywhere.”
Election Day is November 3rd.
