One of our favorites, R&B group Silk‘s debut classic album “Lose Control,” is available now on “Red Silk” colored vinyl.
In 1992, hip-hop-influenced R&B was dominating the charts, with several debut albums by R&B acts from Mary J. Blige, TLC, SWV, and Jade.
In November of 1992, Atlanta-based quartet Silk released their debut album, “Lose Control,” produced by the legendary Keith Sweat.
The group consisting of Timothy “Timzo” Cameron, Jimmy Gates, Gary “Big G” Glenn, Johnathen “John-John” Rasboro, and Gary “Lil G” Jenkins, released their first single, “Happy Days.”
Which samples James Brown’s “The Payback”, a signature of several 90s Hip-Hop and R&B songs.
The group’s second single, the slow jam “Freak Me,” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped drive the album to double-platinum status.
The group has went on to release six more studio albums, however “Lose Control” is pure 90s R&B and remains a classic in their catalog.
The album was not released on vinyl in the US until now.

UB spoke to the group in 2016 and asked them then, what were their goals with “Lose Control?” Jimmy of Silk: “Personally I think we just love to sing. We always wanted to sing and be famous. When you first get in the industry, that’s one of your main goals is to be famous. We always wanted to get awards and that type of thing. It was just one of our passions to sing like we had made it to hopefully get those accolades. That’s pretty much how it is today still, we’re striving for those awards and we have the same passion and pride that we’ve always had all those years ago. We just hope everybody loves the music we’re doing now as they did the music in the past.”
