The ALLBLK Original Film “Funny Thing About Love” launches Thursday, June 11th.
A memoir reignites old flames and exposes a secret that tore them apart, pushing Alice and Miles to confront the breakup that changed everything—and the love that never died.
The Funny Thing About Love is a sexy and emotionally charged Black romance dramedy set against the vibrant backdrop of Atlanta’s premier fictional HBCU, Hunter College.
When bestselling author Miles Morris, played by Courtney Burelle, returns home for his ten year college reunion, he walks straight into the firestorm he thought he left behind.
Alice Lewis, portrayed by Kourney George, is the brilliant and beautiful former love of his life who broke his heart a decade earlier.
What Miles does not expect is that Alice’s carefully curated world has collapsed.
Her high profile marriage to NFL star Derick Pennington, played by one of our favorites Jeff Logan, has imploded and she has quietly moved back home to rebuild her life under the watchful eye of her powerful father Judge Charles Lewis, played by Rockmond Dunbar.
A few days before the reunion, Miles releases a tell all book inspired by their college romance.
The book sends shockwaves through campus and the internet, forcing Alice to confront a long buried secret that could destroy every relationship she values. This includes the truth about a child Miles never knew existed. As old feelings reignite and hidden wounds resurface, the reunion becomes a battlefield of love triangles, family pressure, friendship, and second chances.
Guided by his hilarious best friend Rome, played by Bobbie J Thompson, and supported by Alice’s sharp and protective best friend Mecca, played by Jessie Woo, Miles and Alice must decide whether the past will hold them captive or finally allow them to heal.
Equal parts romantic, messy, tender, and explosively funny, The Funny Thing About Love reimagines the modern Black love story with heart, honesty, heat, and vulnerability.
Starring; Courtney Burelle, Kourney George, Jeff Logan, Bobbie J Thompson, and Rockmond Dunbar.
It is a film about timing, truth, forgiveness, and the kind of love that refuses to disappear no matter how much life gets in the way.
