The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce administers the legendary Walk of Fame for the City of Los Angeles and has proudly hosted the globally iconic star ceremonies for decades.

Millions of people from here and around the world have visited this cultural landmark since 1960.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is honored to welcome Glynn Turman with this well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame producer. “His exceptional talents and dedication to the craft of acting have left an indelible mark on the industry, and we are proud to immortalize his legacy on this iconic boulevard. Glynn’s star will be next to his friend Sidney Poitier’s star, whom he performed with on Broadway in 1959,” added Martinez.

Emmy® Award-winning, New York City-born actor Glynn Turman enjoyed his first prominent acting role at age 12 on Broadway, in A Raisin in the Sun opposite Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee. Upon graduating from the renowned High School of Performing Arts in New York, he apprenticed in regional and repertory companies throughout the country until he settled in Los Angeles in the mid-1970s. He gained prominence working on prime-time soap opera Peyton’s Place, cult classic Cooley High, and the NBC sitcom A Different World.

In 2008, Turman scored his first Emmy win for Outstanding Guest Actor for the HBO series In Treatment, and in 2019 he earned his second Emmy nomination in the same category on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder. He has won multiple NAACP IMAGE Awards including one for Outstanding Guest Performance, an LA Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor, and a Black Reel Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series. Turman has also been nominated for a Critics Choice Award, Film Independent Spirit Award, and SAG Award.

In recent years, Turman’s career has catapulted to new heights. He has starred in various series such as FX’s award-winning Fargo as fan-favorite character ‘Doctor Senator’, Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar, the ABC limited series Women of the Movement, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and most recently, Hulu’s Black Cake, and Disney+’s highly anticipated Percy Jackson and the Olympians as the beloved character ‘Chiron’. On the silver screen, he can be seen in The Way Back alongside Ben Affleck, George C. Wolfe’s Oscar nominated films Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Rustin, Kevin Costner’s upcoming western epic Horizon, and Tyler Perry’s Straw.

An accomplished horseman, Turman started competing in rodeo about 35 years ago, and in 1999, he won the state’s Regional Team Roping Finals and placed in the top five in the National U.S. Team Roping Champion Finals in Oklahoma City. In November 2011, Turman was inducted into the Western Heritage Multi-Cultural Museum’s Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas. Turman and his wife Jo-An currently own a ranch in Lake Hughes, and in 1992, they co-founded a free, non-profit, western style summer camp program called “Camp Gid D Up” for inner-city and at-risk youth.
