Brandy’s ‘Afrodisiac’ Vibrant Orange Vinyl Release
Available During Black Music Month on June 13th.
For the first time on vinyl, Brandy‘s critically acclaimed “Afrodisiac” will be available June 13th.
Originally launched in 2004, this album saw Brandy collaborating with Timbaland to deliver a rich, futuristic sound that redefined modern R&B.
“I really didn’t want to concentrate on being so technical this time,” Brandy stated to Billboard at the time. “I just wanted to sing my heart out and connect with people. With this album I explore my versatility. I knew Timbaland would bring that edge, that nastiness that I never had before. I wasn’t old enough or mature enough before to get into people’s hearts. Now I am.”
“Afrodisiac” debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, selling 131,700 copies in its first week; it was eventually certified gold by the RIAA. The album spawned three singles, including “Talk About Our Love” featuring Kanye West, which reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100; along with “Who Is She 2 U” and “Afrodisiac.”
“Afrodisiac” was also nominated for several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
“Afrodisiac” showcases Brandy‘s maturity as an artist and her innovative influence on the genre.
Brandy went into the “Afrodisiac” sessions determined to express her inner spirit in ways she’d never before attempted on record. Her autobiographical efforts were supported by master producer/beatmaker Timbaland, who served as the main collaborator on the record.
“Timbaland really brought the fire to this album,” she stated. “The music actually tells a story in itself, even without my vocals on it, so I let myself be driven by it. To be able to put a melody on a track that already had a life, that just blew me away. It’s great, passionate music. Timbaland turned on all his creative juices – I I think this is definitely some of his best work.”
