UB Spotlight: Erica Hubbard Talks ‘The Family Business: New Orleans’

The explosive season finale of “Carl Webers The Family Business: New Orleans” is available now on BET+.

In “Burn, Nola, Burn,” Malicious secrets are revealed as Big Shirley, Marquis and the Duncan clan get dragged further into a brutal, power struggle between the city’s most dangerous people on both sides of the law.

One of our favorites and friend of UB, Erica Hubbard portrays Ernestine, a fortune teller tied to one of the main characters Floyd, played by Pooch Hall.

Erica Hubbard can trace her acting career back to when she was 15 years old.

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Erica knew at the early age of nine that she wanted to be an actress after she performed in her first stage play.

She has appeared in numerous films from: Simon Says, Akeelah and the Bee, Assistant, Save the Last Dance, Fall Girls, and A Cinderella Story

As well as numerous television series including Chicago Med, CSI: Miami and Everybody Hates Chris.

Erica was one of the lead characters in the series Lincoln Heights on ABC Family and the voice of Abbey for the TV series The Replacements.

UB caught up with the multi-talented Erica Hubbard, for a quick Q&A on the first season of “Carl Webers The Family Business: New Orleans.

UrbanBridgez.com: What have you enjoyed most about filming “The Family Business: New Orleans?”
Erica Hubbard: Filming The Family Business New Orleans has been an incredible experience I’ve enjoyed because I am working opposite of veterans actors and actresses who have so much experience in the entertainment business that our creative flow is great.

UrbanBridgez.com: We’re now at the season finale, and it does not disappoint! Tell our viewers about Ernestine and what role she plays in the series?
Erica Hubbard: So thankful for all the wonderful comments the viewers say about my role as Ernestine. I enjoy portraying this role because you get to see two sides of the character in her personal life as well as her work life. Carl Weber wrote a fascinating character that is stern and loving character which shows versatility in all her scenes. I love the authenticity this role displays as well as Ernestine’s vulnerability as a fortune teller.

UrbanBridgez.com: Talk a bit about working with the cast and what that experience was like?
Erica Hubbard: Working with the cast of The Family Business New Orleans is a dream come true as each thespian has a lot of wisdom in the performing Arts and everyone exudes creativity to its fullest.

UrbanBridgez.com: What do you see for your character for season two, as we will riot if it’s not renewed.
Erica Hubbard: Ernestine’s personal relationship is very interesting and the viewers are asking to see more of her personal love life as well as why she choose to be a fortune teller so that will probably be explored more in depth soon.

UrbanBridgez.com: Anything you want to share with your fans?
Erica Hubbard: Grateful for the support of everyone watching and supporting all my work. From Lincoln Heights, Let’s Stay Together and now The Family Business New Orleans because I take the craft very serious and always want to make sure that I give performances that everyone enjoys. Training at Columbia College in Theater has paved the way for my career to be cast on this series on BET+ and I am thankful to the network and producers for the opportunity!

UrbanBridgez.com: What else can we expect from you soon?
Erica Hubbard: Next up, I am on-screen opposite of Canadian star’ Mark Taylor along with Omar Gooding in the suspenseful thriller, The Deadly Type releasing soon. Thanks to everyone for everyone for always supporting all my work!
