Our favorite emerging girl group PsiRyn, has earned their first #1 Billboard single with their debut “Sober.”
At the top of the Adult R&B Airplay chart, PsiRyn is the first all-female duo or group to top the Adult R&B Airplay chart in almost 23 years.
The last was Floetry in 2003, with “Say Yes.”
“Sober” knocks Coco Jones “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” from the top, who held it down for seven weeks.
“It feels surreal and is an absolute honor. We are the first girl group in 20 years to achieve this, and it feels truly out of this world – we still can’t believe this is happening!” PsiRyn told Billboard.
Originally beginning as solo artists, the group was able to capture the attention of Kandi Burruss shortly after they shared a viral harmony video on Instagram. Impressed by the girls, Kandi has been working and mentoring the group ever since.
Kandi Burruss discussed the trio with Nick Cannon and Brandin Jay, who showed interest in forming a super girl group. Despite starting as solo artists, the opportunity to join forces as a group was too thrilling to resist.
After countless captivating acapella covers such as their viral take on Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love” across their growing social media channels, PsiRyn is now ready to showcase their melodic harmonies in their own music. A departure from their previous work of displaying their vocal skillset across a range of R&B favorites, their new track gives fans and R&B music lovers a taste of what PsiRyn can do.
“Sober” is currently #18 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
UB spoke to the talented trio late last year and PsiRyn told us then: “We just want to bring something fresh to the market. We want to bring back real black girl singing groups! We’re really excited to bring something new, to the music space right now.” PsiRyn went on to say; “We’re excited our song is climbing the charts, so we want to definitely continue doing that. Get that #1, that would be incredible.”
Job well done ladies, well done…
Watch The New Intimate Live Acoustic Rendition of “Sober.”
Stripped of heavy production, the acoustic session spotlights the song’s powerful message of emotional clarity and self-discovery, resonating deeply with fans who helped propel “Sober” to its historic #1 position. Shot in a minimalistic yet atmospheric setting, the video allows listeners to experience the emotional depth of “Sober” in a fresh and deeply personal way.
“Our journey with ‘Sober’ has been nothing short of magical,” the group states. “This song speaks to so many people, and performing it in its purest form is our way of giving back to the listeners who made this moment possible. We wanted to create something that feels just as personal and vulnerable as the lyrics themselves.”
