In celebration of Black History Month, a groundbreaking four-part docuseries from acclaimed filmmaker John Campbell.
The series offers a deeply personal and unfiltered exploration of five emerging Black artists — Adrian Armstrong, Laurena Finéus, Mario Joyce, Jewel Ham, and Tae Ham — as they navigate the art world and confront the challenges of being Black artists in America.
The series will also be available to stream on Black Experience on XFINITY.
“Who’s Behind Black Art” sheds light on the lives, works, and struggles of a new generation of Black artists, capturing the resilience and innovation that define their journeys.
The series also features a star-studded roundtable discussion with art-world icons, including Derrick Adams, Everette Taylor (CEO of Kickstarter), Elliot Perry (NBA star and art collector), and more. Audiences will experience the unveiling of the artists’ works at a stunning exhibition at the World Trade Center in New York City.
This docuseries is a timely and powerful exploration of Black art, addressing the evolution of the art ecosystem, the preservation of Black art, and critical social justice issues following the events surrounding George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.
The docuseries is gaining critical acclaim and was recently awarded “Best Series – Web” at The 2024 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival!

Born in Paddington, London England, John Campbell’s career first started in the music industry. With significant opportunities to work with some of music’s most prolific artists in the industry, including Whitney Houston, Elton John, George Michael, Boy George, Jon Secada, Zucchero, Nu Colors, Brand New Heavies, and Eurythmics, and contracts signed with Warner Bros. and A&M Records.
He went on, and moved his career into the financial industry, with working in many global divisions including Citi Private Bank, and then landing an opportunity as Chief of Staff for Citigroup’s Global Digital Strategy.
John Campbell is also producer of award winning films and and documentaries including, “A Boy, A Girl, A Dream,” associate producer of the six-time Film Festival Award winning feature “Destined’” lead producer on the feature film “The Sleeping Negro,” producer of Letitia Guillory’s ‘gATES’ tv series, and lead producer for the musical production of “Sideways The Musical.”
