Last year this time, we were reporting the renewals of NBC‘s “Grand Crew” and “Young Rock,” unfortunately this season both comedies have been canceled by NBC.
At the time “Young Rock” was NBC’s #1 primetime comedy in the 18-49 demo, while the first season of “Grand Crew” reached over 17 million total viewers in the U.S. across viewing platforms.
However it doesn’t really come to a big surprise that “Grand Crew” was canceled. Fans of the series, voiced concerns all season via Twitter, about the shows renewal.
Needless to say, the official cancelation announcement, has the fans extremely disappointed.
@GrandCrewNBC cancellation is example that positive black representation doesn’t matter to this big networks. If it ain’t stereotypical they ain’t keeping it #GrandCrew #NBC #nbcpeacock

Grand Crew being cancelled is deeply disappointing. That show was beautiful and funny as hell. We lost a great sitcom.

I think that’s why I have been rewatching a lot of the black 90s shows because we can’t have nothing nowadays. I hate that I get attached to shows because when they get cancelled, I feel like I lost a friend ?#GrandCrew

How do you cancel a show with this level of hilarious nonsense?!!! #GrandCrew pic.twitter.com/85XAk6GWg7

I’m disappointed. Grand Crew was really starting to find its voice in season 2. https://t.co/A4R8XRHdVv

This is so disappointing. #GrandCrew is one of my favorite shows and one of the best recent representations of Black characters just getting to hang out, have fun and be goofy but also come across as fully realized and multi dimensional. Gonna miss the crew. #ClangClang https://t.co/QH73JoHi9W

Creator Phil Augusta Jackson was all positive in his response; “what up fam — grand crew was canceled today, but it’s still a celebration. i’m grateful that i got to create and showrun two seasons of network tv with my friends — it was a dream come true. thanks to everyone who worked on and watched the show. clang clang”
Phil Augusta Jackson stated when the series premiered; “Beyond the fermented grapes and friendship, “Grand Crew” at its core is about showing a side of Black men that we don’t always get to see on television — we laugh, love and are multidimensional. My hope with this show was to portray Black men beyond our stereotypes and to show that we feel all of the feelings, just like everyone else. Also, the goal was to make a funny show. We all deserve more laughs after the past couple of years.”
There’s Noah, a hopeless romantic eager to settle down; Nicky, a go-getter in real estate who’s adventurous in romance; Sherm, a low-key genius who plays the dating odds; Anthony, whose true love is his career; Wyatt, who’s relieved to be married and out of the dating scene; and Fay, who’s recently divorced and looking to start fresh in LA. And just like wine, their friendship gets better with time.
UB hates to see the sitcom go, as we’ve been there from the start and wanted to continue to cover it for many more years to come. Clang Clang…
Last season UB Interviewed series stars Aaron Jennings, Grasie Mercedes and Carl Tart, plus guest stars Vanessa Bell Campbell and Charles Parnell.
