Dickey Doo Taps the Sounds Jamecia Bennett for the Feel Good ‘Do What You Want’
DJ and House music producer Dickey Doo has collaborated with one of our favorites, Gospel vocalists Jamecia Bennett of the 3xGrammy-winning Minneapolis based Sounds Of Blackness.
The single “Do What You Want” was released today January 8th via Hypernatural Recordings, with the visual premiering on January 22nd.
A mutual contact brought together Berlin-based, Canadian born DJ & Producer Dickey Doo together with the daughter of Ann Nesby, Miss Jamecia Bennett.
Based around the passionate vocal statements of Jamecia and a classic 90s House groove laid down by Dickey, “Do What You Want” is a call out to support those who feel pain but make a stance for what they believe in even if they get singled out for being different.
Jamecia says about the writing of the song, “I want this to be a theme song for anything that you want to get out of your life. I referred to a past relationship and how sometimes we allow feelings, and those people to linger even when promises and boundaries are broken and overstepped. We have the power to say NO! Do what you want, I don’t care!!!!! We have the power to say no to whatever we are going through!”
“I won’t take no disrespect
I won’t take no more pain
You thought you had the best of me
But now I serve you shade”
This collaboration is unexpected but extremely cool. Dickey Doo has done official remixes for R.E.M., Peaches B-52s and more, while Jamecia Bennett has sung for the late greats Prince & Aretha Franklin, as well as Janet Jackson and more!
Jamecia is looking to make a major impact on the music scene in 2021. There has been an absence of thought-provoking, healing music of late, and Jamecia is looking to resurrect music that honestly, and positively, and talks about love, struggle, and the reality of relationships of the current generation.
From 2016 to 2018 Dickey dropped three releases on NYC’s Get Up Recordings, including the hit “Cutting Up”, along with many other projects.
His 2019 releases included the international hit “Happy” produced with frequent collaborator Snax, sung by Mavin and featuring NYC legend Lady Bunny.
