51st NAACP Image Awards Air Tonight on BET | First Round Winners + Photos

NAACP celebrated the achievements of the first round of 51st NAACP Image Awards winners during a special non-televised dinner ceremony at the Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood, California last night. The dinner, hosted by Sheryl Underwood, included two new award categories: Youth Activist of the Year which was awarded to Australyah Coleman and Activist of the Year which was awarded to Teresa Haley.

The star-studded event included appearances from Adrienne Banfield-Norris, Adrienne Houghton, Amanda Seales, Asante Blackk, Bianca Lawson, Bebe Winans, Chloe Bailey, Deon Cole, Diggy Simmons, Elaine Welteroth, Forest Whitaker, Loretta Devine, Marsai Martin, Niecy Nash, Tamron Hall, Tichina Arnold, and more.

During the dinner, Derrick Johnson, NAACP President and CEO, welcomed the audience with an impactful speech addressing the importance of the NAACP Image Awards saying “In a time where so many entities are trying to suppress our voice, the Image Awards are an opportunity to put a spotlight on Black excellence and let our voice be heard.

This illustrious event preludes the special live broadcast of the 51st NAACP Image Awards which will air live on BET tonight Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 8 p.m./7 p.m. CT from the Pasadena Civic Center Auditorium.
