Shanice Co-Signs Chris Brown’s ‘Undecided’

Chris Brown is gearing up for his ninth album release “Indigo,” slated for release this Spring. Chris recently signed a new deal with his long-time label RCA. The new deal allows him to become one of the youngest recording artists to ever, to own any of his master recordings.

The first single from the album “Undecided,” is produced by Scott Storch and co-produced by Avedon. The single samples the 1991 hit single by Shanice, “I Love Your Smile.”

We spoke to Shanice, who told us how it all came about; “He reached out to Bill Bellamy for my contact, who’s mutual friends with myself and Flex. Then Chris talked to Flex and mentioned that he used “I Love Your Smile” in a song and Flex told him that I would love that.” Shanice went on to say, “Chris said he really just wanted to get my blessings on it. I told him absolutely! We just had to go through the proper channels and I reached out to Narada Michael Walden and he was excited, so we all signed off on it. The thing Chris didn’t tell us, that it was going to be the first single, I just thought it was on the album. Maybe a week before the release Phil Thornton (RCA) texted me and said congratulations on having the first single, it goes to radio the first week in January. That was such a great way to start the new year.”

So what does Shanice think of “Undecided?” “I think he did a great job, I love it! I love what he did because it’s current but it still has that old school vibe,” Shanice said. “I love the melody they put on it, the track is banging. He nailed it, I think it’s so dope. I think the timing of it is so perfect right now also, because there is so much negativity going on. The world needed something like this that’s upbeat & uplifting, it’s a feel good song. So the timing of it was just the perfect time.

What’s interesting about that is Shanice wrote the song during the Gulf War, because she wanted to release a single that would make people happy.

Songwriter credits for Undecided: Shanice Knox, Jarvis Baker, Sylvester Jackson, Narada Michael Walden, Felicia Ferraro, Vincent van den Ende, Antonio Stith, Patrizio Pigliapoco, Scott Storch and Chris Brown.
