The UB Video Interview: Karyn White Talks Pandemic, Regrets and Catalog

In celebration of our brand new video interview with Karyn White, we declared Saturday August 1st, 2020 Karyn White Day.

Karyn made her debut 32 years ago this month, as a solo recording artists, with 1988‘s “The Way You Love Me.

Karyn is an accomplished singer/songwriter who etched herself into music history with her smash, “Superwoman.” That song made international waves, selling over a million units, being certified Gold and named the Billboard R&B Song of the Year in 1989. She’s a superwoman.

In the years before the release of “Carpe Diem” and her last release in 1994 “Make Him Do Right” the lovely, soulful vocalist focused her energy on family, raising and nurturing her daughter Ashley, her daughter with ex-husband, producer/songwriter Terry Lewis. Karyn‘s priorities to family were largely responsible for her absence from the music scene.

Her daughter Ashley graduated from Howard University and went on to be one of our very own UrbanBridgez.com L.A. correspondents before becoming a floor director, followed by a Morning Reporter at WRBL News 3 in Columbus, Georgia. Now Ashley is a casting producer.

Karyn‘s considerable talents extend well beyond music. She’s been successfully honing her skills in recent years as an interior designer, and making moves in real estate. However, she didn’t turn her back on music, still paying close attention to the industry.

Karyn White‘s last project, the Film and Soundtrack to, “Gale &The Storm,” is a story loosely based on Karyn‘s life.

In this new UB interview, Aries from UB has a conversation with Karyn White. They talk about the pandemic and how she’s been handing her spare time, Karyn also touches on regrets she has from her early days in the industry.

Most won’t believe it, but Karyn White may be the only artist who Prince wanted to work with & she chose not to, she tells us why.

Plus she gets candid on obstacles she faced towards the end of her marriage to Terry Lewis, she speaks on the love & appreciation she receives in South Africa compared to the U.S. and she honors UB, by telling our AriesUBG that he has a great ear for music and congratulates us on our anniversary.

If that’s not all enough, Karyn tells her side of what happened with the LA & Babyface tribute, when Fantasia performed “Superwoman” and she plays the UBLyric Game.
