VIBE’s Feb/March Issue Features Bruno Mars, Wiz Khalifa and B.o.B.
VIBE’s February/March Issue (on newsstands February 22) features the trinity of top music artists Bruno Mars, B.o.B. and Wiz Khalifa on the cover with interviews about how they are individually shaping the new pop music.
In “When Mars Attacks,” Bruno Mars promises that while he’s had many hits in 2011, he is far from over. With Elvis being one of his idols, “I’m a fan of the young Elvis. And I’m a fan of the story, how he freaked out white America by doing this black rock’n’roll.” With his laid back Hawaiian attitude and his multi-cultural musical influences, this young artist is just getting started.
In “Sound Advice,” Atlanta-born Bobby Ray Simmons, aka B.o.B, explains how artistry defines his money-making hits and not the other way around. “I’m not a corporate rapper,” says B.o.B. “My loyalty is to the music…it doesn’t mean that I don’t sell music – it just means that first I’m an artist, regardless of anything.”
Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa talks about his rise from obscurity to the music charts, his love of weed and yellow and black in “How High.”
“Funny Business” shows how Big Momma’s House star Martin Lawrence has mellowed with fatherhood but can still open a movie with big numbers. Supermodel turned actress Selita Ebanks is featured in a fashion shoot and talks about her alter ego and big screen dreams.
“The mixing of music genres has been the new cool for some time now,” says Jermaine Hall, VIBE Editor-in-Chief. “These three artists won’t be limited to a category, but rather, their ability to craft great melodies is their common factor.”
