In this exclusive interview with UrbanBridgez.com, as apart of our anniversary interview series! Pleasure P talked to Aries about his solo success, being on two of the hottest tours of the year, his next album, Swagga Entertainment and much more! Get to know the new bad boy of R&B!
UrbanBridgez.com: You’re currently on tour with R. Kelly, what’s been the best part so far about being out on the road with Kells?
Pleasure P: The best part, is seeing the different audiences that come in. I’m use to performing for a much younger audience, because that’s the fanbase I attracted when I was in a group. But now it’s adults, grownups. You know I’m a grownup, so I fit in real good.
UrbanBridgez.com: I caught you on the Lil Wayne tour, how is the current tour you’re on different from the last?
Pleasure P: The Wayne tour wasn’t an urban tour, you know what I mean. This tour is definitely an urban tour, Wayne’s was more of a crossover tour. It was a mixed crowd. This tour is more my fanbase, I’m urban, if you check the charts (the week of Oct. 15th) I have the #1 urban single out right now. With “Under,” so yeah, urban is my thing!
UrbanBridgez.com: Your solo debut has been very successful this last year, did you expect all of the success so soon?
Pleasure P: Umm, I actually expected more success (laughs)! But I’m content at where I’m at man, you know. I’m content at where I’m at, I can’t complain. I started out negative, you know coming from a group. So I started out negative, so now I got the ability to be, at a normal 0 right now. Now that I’ve dropped my first album, people getting to see and I broke that barrier. Now with my next album I can go just like anybody else went you know.
UrbanBridgez.com: Any plans for another single from the album?
Pleasure P: I’m thinking about it, we’re deciding right now. But I don’t know, because “Under” is still on the charts and still doing well. So depending on how fast “Under” goes, we’ll see. If “Under” keeps me around till Christmas, then I’m going to take my months break and come out with my next single in February.
UrbanBridgez.com: Let’s talk about the next album, what are your plans with it and have you started recording as of yet?
Pleasure P: I started recording some stuff, the next album is called “Suppertime.” I’m dedicating it to a good friend of mine, Static Major, which was actually the title of his album. So I’m naming it after him and dedicating this whole album to him. And you know, the direction with this album. I’m gonna say, I connected more as an artist! Before I use to sing songs and that’s good to sing songs. But now I’m going to talk about the things that I really, really experienced. With the different people in this industry and you know just people in general. I’m just now starting to see, my celebrity and how people change. All that kind of stuff, my mentality has changed as far as people and things like that. This album is definitely going to say alot about me. My current album was called “The Introduction of Marcus Cooper,” but I think people are going to really get to know Marcus Cooper with this album.
UrbanBridgez.com: You’ve worked with alot of artists this year from Flo Rida to Teairra Mari, anymore upcoming collabs fans can expect?
Pleasure P: I got a lot of collaborations coming out man (laughs). I don’t even know half of the people to start naming. Gucci Mane, Plies to Sean Kingston. I got alot coming to Bow Wow, Young Money, I gotta alot of stuff coming out. Just look out for me man.
UrbanBridgez.com: What’s the best part about being a solo artist oppose to being in a group?
Pleasure P: I don’t have to decide with people with what I don’t wanna wear, I can tell you that much. And it’s more decision making, like nobody can’t judge me for what the next person did, they can only judge me for me being me!
UrbanBridgez.com: Last time we spoke you were telling me about your clothing line, what’s the latest with that?
Pleasure P: I took a break from the clothing line. I’ve been touring, I was on the Wayne tour, now the Kells tour. I had an album coming out, so I had to promote that. I kind of devoted all of my time into that. Top of the year, I think I’m going to get back focused on the clothing line thing, when I’m working on this new album. And to try to have something out by summer.
UrbanBridgez.com: When will you guys start debuting some of the artists on Swagga Entertainment?
Pleasure P: First quarter (2010) January, I’ll have my first artist his name is Sunny Mason. He’s definitely going to be out, he sings pop/funk. He’s from Scotland, moved to London and ended up moving next door to me. He now lives in T.I.’s old house, before he went in. He got this style and this swag about him, you know people are going to love him, ladies are definitely going to love him. That’s my first project, my first artist that I got all of my attention on. The second one up on my roster is Al B. Sure Jr. Son of Al B. Sure, so I’m working on those two artists. They’re going to be my main two focuses at the top of the year. Be looking out for them.
UrbanBridgez.com: You’ve been on your grind for quite sometime, do you plan to take any down time for yourself?
Pleasure P: I don’t have anytime for down time, never really been on a vacation. In due time, but we gotta keep coming at them with album, after album, after album. Until they get it, you know what I mean. I want it embedded in their heads that I am the new bad boy of R&B!
UrbanBridgez.com: Any last words for your fans?
Pleasure P: Love, peace and hairgrease!
