UB Spotlight: ‘Civil: Ben Crump’ | Launching Juneteenth on Netflix

Named “Black America’s Attorney General” by Rev. Al Sharpton, Ben Crump is gearing up for his documentary.

On Juneteenth, this Sunday June 19th, Netflix will launch “Civil: Ben Crump,” the documentary opened the 2022 American Black Film Festival.

The life and career of groundbreaking civil rights attorney Ben Crump will take center stage in the documentary feature from Peabody Award winning producer Kenya Barris, Oscar and Emmy Award winning documentary producer Roger Ross Williams and director Nadia Hallgren.

An intimate vérité look following the life of the civil rights attorney, as he challenges America to come to terms with what it owes his clients—including the families of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

The documentary feature will pull back the curtain on an array of Crump’s past and current cases by examining the distinct nature of his work, his impact on American civil rights and racial justice, and the toll such work takes on him and his family.

Considered a trailblazer and maverick of his field, Ben first gained recognition while representing the family of Trayvon Martin.

Directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Nadia Hallgren. Produced by Kenya Barris, Roger Ross Williams and Lauren Cioffi.

UB was a proud co-sponsor of “The 2nd Annual Ben Crump Equal Justice Now Awards,” that took place, at the LAX Marriott in Los Angeles, CA. last week. Our feature on the event will be live tomorrow June 17th.
