‘Hitsville: A Motown Gospel Celebration’ – Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Lexi & More
Motown Records is celebrating 60 years! Hitsville Honors, a tribute to Berry Gordy Jr. and the legacy and impact of Motown Records, is set to be part of the Motown Museum’s 60th anniversary to be held on September 22nd in Detroit.
Stars from the record label are expected to attend and the musical lineup features classic Motown acts like the Temptations, Four Tops, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and Mary Wilson, and also contemporary artists Ne-Yo and Detroit’s own KEM and Big Sean.
With that, UB has learned Motown is releasing “Hitsville: A Motown Gospel Celebration” on August 16th. The 5-song EP, includes new recordings by current Motown recording artists, of classic songs written from the Motown vault.
One of our favorites Lexi does a new rendition of the Leon Ware classic “I Wanna Be Where You Are.” Leon was a recording artist and songwriter who wrote hits for Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Maxwell, Minnie Riperton and Marvin Gaye. Tasha Cobbs Leonard covers the Stevie Wonder classic “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” Take a look at the tracklist below.
Other Motown 60 events planned include a Motown Gospel concert on September 21st at Detroit World Outreach and the “Soul in One” celebrity golf classic September 23rd at the Tam-O-Shanter Country Club.
