UB Rare Music Spotlight: Subway (1995)

Subway debuted in 1994, four teens who hailed from Chicago, Illinois.

The members were Eric McNeal, Keith Thomas, Trerail Puckett, and Roy Jones. They were signed to Michael Bivins label, Biv 10.

Their debut album released in 1995, “Good Times” reached #23 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #1 on Billboard‘s Top Heatseekers Albums chart. “This Lil Game We Play” featuring labelmates, R&B group 702 peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100, #4 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 chart and #4 on Billboard‘s Hot R&B Singles chart in December of 1994, staying on the chart for 26 weeks.

The second single from the album, “Fire” peaked at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #34 on Billboard‘s Hot R&B Singles chart in April of 1995, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. The third and final single from the album,

This is Not a Goodbye” peaked at #85 on Billboard‘s Hot R&B Singles chart in September of 1995, staying on the chart for 5 weeks. Gerald LeVert provides background vocals on the song.

In 1996, Subway released the single “I’ll Make Your Dreams Come True” which was featured on the “Kazaam” movie soundtrack. The song peaked at #64 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart in July of 1996, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.
