Marsha Ambrosius ‘Late Nights & Early Mornings’ Tracklisting

With her current soul-stirring single “Far Away” climbing the charts, six-time Grammy nominated singer/songwriter/producer Marsha Ambrosius will officially release her J Records solo debut album Late Nights & Early Mornings on March 1, 2011,

The emotionally charged video for “Far Away,” conceptualized by Marsha and directed by her manager Julius Erving III, touches upon society’s current ills of bullying, gay bashing and suicide. Since the video’s premiere, it’s been the #1 played video on VH1 Soul (beating out Trey Songz), while gaining the attention of millions on the internet and critical praise for Marsha’s artistic approach to the subject matter.  “I lost a friend and I’ve had friends that have attempted suicide. There are people that don’t have a voice to speak out and show what is happening and what can happen, so I just wanted people to see the honesty in it and be aware,” Marsha said in a recent interview with the Associated Press.

By being honest and aware in her approach to creating timeless music, Late Nights & Early Mornings offers a candid glimpse of Marsha’s life and perspectives as she takes the reigns as the primary songwriter and producer of the album. Collaborations with musical peers Alicia Keys, Dre & Vidal (producers of “Say Yes”), Just Blaze and more add a raw and edgy vibe to the reflective and soulful album.

Inspired by musical icons like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Prince, she concedes there is an overall male influence in her songwriting, such as the assertive sentiments heard on “Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player),” “Your Hands,” “The Break Up Song” and the album’s title track “Late Nights & Early Mornings.” She explains, “My pen and my point of view has a certain aggression to it because I’ve listened to a lot of male influenced music, which I think makes me one of the most outspoken writers out here. Sometimes as a woman you don’t wanna say what’s on your mind for fear of being judged. But why wouldn’t I say it like that if that’s how I felt?”
