Video Premiere: John Legend & The Roots ‘Wake Up Everybody’

John Legend & The Roots introduce “Wake Up Everybody”, the debut music video from their forthcoming album WAKE UP!, premieres exclusively on the iTunes Store today. The “Do The Right Thing” inspired video features Grammy Award winning rapper Common and R&B Singer/ Songwriter Melanie Fiona along with John Legend and The Roots. The video was shot in Brooklyn and directed by Gil Green (Lil Wayne “Lollipop”, Rick Ross “Magnificent”). The pre-order for WAKE UP! is available now on the iTunes Store and includes an exclusive live in-studio version of “Compared to What”.

John Legend & The Roots are VH1’s Posted Artist for the month of August. Posted “will provide music fans with a singular destination to find social media updates, videos, news and photos of their favorite artists.” VH1, CMT and MTV will add new spotlight artists each month, with each artist’s page continuing “on each channel’s web and mobile properties as a space that connects artists directly with their fans in real time.” Posted provides exclusive content from John & The Roots all month long on VH1.com and will feature the “Wake Up Everybody” video on August 19, along with the channel premiere on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown on August 21. Previous Posted artists include Adam Lambert and Sara Bareilles.

On August 6, 2010 fans got an early listen to tracks from WAKE UP! on Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series from Central Park’s Summerstage. Up next, John Legend & The Roots can be seen performing songs from WAKE UP! on the Miss Universe Competition on August 23 at 9pm ET on NBC. They will also be seen during release week on Good Morning America (September 24), Jimmy Fallon (September 23-24) and The View on September 28.

WAKE UP!, being released by Columbia Records on September 21, 2010, will feature soulful music from the 60’s and 70’s all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness— effectively telling listeners to WAKE UP!
