Anita Baker Preps ’21st Century Love’

R&B icon Anita Baker is set to make fans of her romantic style excited with the forthcoming “21st Century Love,” the artist’s seventh studio album, which will be released soon on Blue Note Records/EMI. The ten track offering lives up to its title, featuring the same classic baby making music that Baker is known for, but with a modern twist. The first single and full tracklisting is expected to be announced soon.

Over the past few years, many artists, including Kanye West, Lil Wayne and others have brought Anita’s music and artistry to our current generation, allowing them to discover the beauty of her catalog. Whether mentioning her name and/or songs in lyrics or sampling one of her classic hits, as rap phenom Drake did earlier this year, it is clear that Anita has made an impression on other artists. It is with this spirit that the album title, 21st Century Love, came about and what also inspired her to invite guests Snoop Dogg and Tyrese to be a part of the project.

On “Give Me Your Love,” Anita remakes the classic Curtis Mayfield that was released in 1972 on the soundtrack for the film Super Fly. Anita recalls, “When I was planning on making this record, I was thinking, who is Super Fly these days? And immediately I knew I had to get Snoop on the song.” The other collaboration is also a remake, with Anita’s close friend, actor and R&B star Tyrese, and is a rendition of his first single, “Lately.”

In addition to preparing for the album release, Anita recently announced two upcoming show dates in late August where she will perform her classic hits. The show dates are as follows:

August 26 – Filene Center – Vienna, VA
August 28 – DTE Music Theater – Clarkston, MI
