SoMo’s self-titled debut album entered at #6 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the iTunes Album Chart. His breakout single “Ride” was certified Gold and his new single “Show Off” is currently climbing at radio.
In 2012, SoMo—aka Joseph Somers-Morales— independently released his mixtape, My Life, after growing a vast following by uploading popular renditions of new and old classics to YouTube.
A powerful, palpable, and passionate collection, My Life merged R&B spirit with pop soul, showcasing SoMo’s dynamic voice and his songwriting prowess. The mixtape spawned the Texas native’s first hit “Ride,” which began selling 10,000 digital tracks weekly- prior to any radio support and label backing. At the time, the accompanying music video, directed by Dan Gotti, quickly amassed over 3 million views which has since grown to nearly 14 million. In addition, the mixtape gained SoMo early support from Mannie Fresh, who appeared in the video for his song “Kings and Queens.”
As “Ride” continued to gain steam, SoMo hit the road for a sold out headline tour. Struck by all of his independent success, Republic Records reached out and offered him a deal in October 2013.
In February of 2014, SoMo released his self-titled debut album, which entered at #6 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the iTunes Album Chart. His breakout single “Ride” was certified Gold, and he made his National Television debut appearances on BET’s 106 & Park and The Arsenio Hall Show.
Simultaneously, SoMo released a cover song every week as part of his “SoMo Sunday” campaign. Speaking directly to his fans, he offered up new music each Sunday, and the series has accrued 50 million-plus views on YouTube. In addition to going viral, the videos have garnered SoMo support from peers such as Wale, Ginuwine and Trey Songz.
Since the release, SoMo has been on the road touring, and working on collaborations with artists like Jeremih. This week, he released a new version of his current single “Show Off” featuring Kirko Bangz, which is expected to heat up at radio.
