UB First Listen: Jon B.’s Mesmerizing ‘Natural Drug’
Impacting R&B Radio Next Week.
Jon B. is prepping his brand new ninth album. The first teaser from the album, the Tank assisted “Waiting on You” was released earlier this year.
Today, UB has your First Listen of the follow-up single “Natural Drug.” Impacting R&B Radio next week on November 11th & 12th.
The brand new mesmerizing ballad has that classic Jon B. signature sound. With production, that is nothing short of sublime.
Jon B. says of “Natural Drug,” “There is no aphrodisiac like the “natural drug” a woman is. Through her love inspiration naturally flows to me She is why I dig so deep in my creativity. Searching for the gems that reflect her brilliance.”
Jon B. continued “I’m getting back to the feeling I gave you in songs like “Callin On You” with “Natural Drug.” I’m always inspired by harmonies and melody. So there’s plenty of that in this one. You can feel the intimacy with some metaphoric word play. This song is very visual in that it paints a picture with the words. I wanted to highlight Classic Beauty in that it is timeless. Having Cynthia Bailey featuring in the video pays homage to just that. Classic, Timeless Beauty in all ages and sizes.”
The upcoming album also features Donell Jones, Alex Isley and Rick Ross.
In 2004, UB interviewed Jon B. via our then brand T M H for his “Stronger Everyday” album release. At the time we asked him what was the most frustrating aspect of being a recording artist? “The bullshit that goes along with it. Promoting yourself to the next level. Having the light you want to be shined on you instead of the light the media wants to shine on you. Basically not to be made to look like an idiot.”
We went on to have him tell us his favorite songs he had recorded at that time; “This is coming off the top of my head, let’s see. “Through The Fire,” “Burning 4 You” from the “Bonafied” album. “Cool/Relax,” “Can’t Help it” and “What in the World.” I have a lot of favorites that I recorded with rappers that a lot of people don’t know about. Like with Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg. A lot of soundtrack songs that didn’t really jump off. That’s some of my best work to me. It’s amazing for me to work with people that I look up to and are such big fans of like Jay-Z. One of the best songs I’ve done was with Jay & Coko for the Hav Plenty soundtrack.”
Jon B. is a consummate artist, an accomplished musician and a noted songwriter and producer with several gold and platinum records under his belt. His richly textured body of music is a testament to a man’s love for all things soul.
His beginnings were seasoned by early influences including Duran Duran, Inxs, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Babyface, Prince and Sade. With a career spanning over 25 years, Jon B.‘s production and songwriting abilities continue to grow with the times.
