Creator of “Emperor of Ocean Park,” Sherman Payne speaks on the music!
“Hip-hop music is the soundtrack to Talcott Garland’s life. Like so many of us who came of age in the 90s and 2000s, there are specific rap songs that evoke strong memories and emotions for Tal. This decade-spanning playlist serves as the perfect catalog of the music that defines Tal’s character and story.
Not only have we included songs that appear in the show, but we’ve also included dozens of tracks that inspired us in the writers’ room, where we often referenced individual songs to represent feelings or particular time periods. This is a playlist for everyone, but if you’re an aging hip-hop head like me (and Tal), you’ll really enjoy this trip down memory lane.”
“Emperor of Ocean Park” is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with John Wells, Erin Jontow, and Shukree Tilghman serving as Executive Producers alongside Sherman Payne.
