UB Spotlight: Urban One Honors Celebrates ‘Soundtrack of Black America’

This year’s Urban One Honors aired last night Monday, January 17th, 2022, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on TV One and CLEO TV.

The show continued to shine a spotlight on a superstar group of honorees including Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Lifetime Achievement; Timbaland, Music Innovation; Gamble and Huff, Living Legends; Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Inspiration Impact; and Oscar, GRAMMY and Emmy Award-winning Jennifer Hudson, Entertainment Icon.

Hosted by GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter and producer Ne-Yo.

TV personality & Rickey Smiley Morning Show co-host Eva Marcille hosted a special backstage pass segment, featuring exclusive interviews with the show’s honorees, performers, and presenters.

H.E.R. took the stage for an exclusive opening performance. Additional performers included Inspiration honoree Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Kelly Price, Tyrese, Tank, with a special set by D-Nice.

The highlight of performances was Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant, who paid tribute to legendary producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Both performed New Edition and solo hit singles written and produced by Jam and Lewis.

Jermaine Dupri, Marlon Wayans and Vashawn Mitchell also presented. Wireless provider T-Mobile, served as Presenting Sponsor of the celebration.
