R&B legend, singer and songwriter Shirley Murdock behind hits such as, “As We Lay,” “Go on Without You,” “Husband,” and also known for her vocals on Zapp and Roger Troutman‘s classic “Computer Love,” has released a rendition of a favorite holiday classic, “Winter Wonderland.”

Her must-play version will carry you away, into a wonderful winter wonderland.

In 1986, her gold-selling debut self-titled album, cemented the soul singer as a bonafide hit-maker.

I’ve always enjoyed singing holiday classics, since a young girl,” she stated. “I think especially now, we need to spread more holiday cheer in the world as we navigate in this pandemic. “What better song to do this, then Winter Wonderland.

UB had the wonderful pleasure of speaking with Shirley Murdock last summer for Black Music Month, we asked her then regarding recording R&B and Gospel; was it ever challenging for her to the point that she had to debate. Whether she wanted to follow what people thought you should do, or what was in her heart?

“I thought I was going to be mainstream. But as I grew my relationship with God. My desire changed. I said well maybe I’m just suppose to sing gospel. And I was satisfied with that and happy to do that. I pursued the Gospel but those doors never opened. I had opportunities as you saw on the episode, so many times to sing R&B and I turned it down and when I finally met Roger Troutman, I turned him down too. But he left that door open. And so I was like God, why is this the only door opening for you? So I walked by faith into the door God opened.”

Shirley Murdock is a true multi-media beloved songstress spanning achievements in music, television and theatre.
