JoJo Breaks Down The Meaning of Her New Album ‘good to know’ | Available May 1st
JoJo‘s new album “good to know,” is set for release on May 1st, 2020 via Clover Music/Warner Records and available now for pre-order. With production from heavy hitters Doc McKinney (The Weeknd, Santigold), Lido (Halsey, Chance The Rapper) and 30 Roc (Roddy Ricch, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B), good to know is an R&B-infused, emotionally honest body of work centered around JoJo’s new-found confidence, both musically and personally.
JoJo breaks down the album;
“good to know is raw, trunk rattling, sensual, musical and narrative. There’s reckless badassery juxtaposed by introspective R&B, sticky hooks, and lush harmonics.
I was having an existential crisis when I began writing a couple years ago and it forced me to take a cold hard look around and within. I wanted to escape my insecurity and deep rooted fears but was no longer able to pretend to be anything other than my perfectly flawed supremely imperfect self. The project can be broken into three chapters.
The first being: here’s what I do to numb myself. Get me out of my skin and let me be distracted with love, sex, substances.
I start off not being proud of my behavior.
The middle part finds me realizing that I need to be on my own for the first time in my life to end patterns that aren’t serving me anymore.
Toward the end, I knock on the door of self-love. Accepting where I’ve been and meeting myself where I’m at.The arc is one of escapism, seeking external validation, insatiability, loneliness, shame, introspection, then eventual empowerment, acceptance, and learning to be in the present moment.”
JoJo has released her fiery new single “Man,” an empowering bop that finds her committed to enjoying being single until she finds a partner who is truly worthwhile.
For the video, directed by Marc Klasfeld (Katy Perry, Jay-Z), she recruited friends Tinashe, Ari Lennox, Francia Raisa, JoJo Gomez, and JinJoo (of DNCE) to celebrate their independence alongside her.
JoJo is taking the new album on the road with her good to know Headline Tour, kicking off April 21st in Seattle, WA. Tickets are on-sale now at www.iamjojoofficial.com
