Grammy® winning, singer-songwriter Elle Varner has released her new album “Ellevation” via Entertainment One. On the project she worked with Da Internz, Pop & Oak, DJ Camper, Nineteen85 and more.

Aries from UB talked to Elle recently, on the red carpet at the 2019 BET Awards.

We wanted to know what’s been the best thing about her success? “The best part about it is the fact that I’ve reached so many people. And been apart of their lives.” She continued “Whether they were going through it in high school, or going through a break-up, I’ve been apart of that.

Of course we had to ask about “Ellevation” and what separates it from 2012‘s “Perfectly Imperfect?”

“The new album is much more raw. It’s not like real pretty or presented as such. It’s really some deep stuff on Ellevation.”

A multi-instrumentalist of Cape Verdean, Swedish and African American descent. Raised in Los Angeles, Varner spent all of her childhood surrounded by music having parents that were both singers/songwriters.

By the age of 13, Varner was playing the guitar, writing and recording her own music. She attended Amazing Grace Conservatory, a private performing art school for youth of color, and was a member of Hamilton Music Academy’s esteemed Vocal Jazz Choir. Later, she studied at NYU’s Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.

Elle won her first Grammy last year for her work with Chance the Rapper on his hit album Coloring Book.
