Two of the best singers and songwriters to emerge from the 90s are teaming up for a new duet.
Jon B. & Donell Jones have announced the single “Understand,” to be released in April.

The two both made the announcement via their Instagram pages.

It should come to no shock to anyone that the two artists have collaborated, considering they’ve been touring together for years, not to mention both shut down BET’s Soul Train Awards last year with performances together.

UB has spoken to them both throughout the years and Jon B. told us in 2004, that Donell was on his wish list to work with. We asked him, if he could form an R&B male group with 2 other artists, who would he pick?

I’m really feeling Carl Thomas and I would also pick Mario Winans. I would want to be in one with other male artists who play instruments as well. Like Brian McKnight, D’Angelo, Donell Jones and Raphael Saadiq. I would love to open up for Alicia Keys on tour, I think that would be hot!

We asked Donell in 2010 what personally would he like to see change with the current state of R&B music? “Some of the things I would liked to see change is and I’m not knocking anybody when I say this. But I don’t think there is enough love for the music. I think mostly everybody is talking about how much money they got and who they wanna bang out. And I think that those songs are very easy to write. You know it doesn’t take a lot of thought.” He went on to say;

I wanna do something meaningful, put something out there that people can actually get something from. Like if you’re in a relationship and something is going wrong. Just make songs that people can actually sit back and listen to and get some type of guidance from.

We think it’s safe to say, this new single with Jon B. is some of that meaningful music Donell promised.
