In this two-part UB Interview, Kimberly Elise spoke with Aries from UrbanBridgez.com about the new season, what fans can expect from the characters this season, her favorite scenes and what made her join the cast originally.
UrbanBridgez.com: What can fans of #TeamSloane expect this season from her character that we haven’t really seen in previous seasons?
Kimberly Elise: Well there is always something going on with Sloane. It’s really more of the same, but much deeper and complex. Like Sloane gets something on her mind and doesn’t let it go. She’s very strong about things she feels and continues with that theme. There’s more Pete and Sloane activities. Just more complex interactions with some of our favorite characters and Sloane.
UrbanBridgez.com: Without giving too much away, tell us about one of your favorite scenes you filmed for this season?
Kimberly Elise: Well, there’s some great throw-down scenes. I like the extremes, I like the throw-down scenes but I really like the happy family scenes. Some of my favorite scenes this season are with me and Ahsha and Pete. Also our relationship and how it has revealed this season.
UrbanBridgez.com: Why should people tune into this season of Hit The Floor?
Kimberly Elise: Oh my god, if you liked season one it just gets more complex and interesting this season. We start to get to see all off the different sides of the characters. The shadow sides and the light sides, of all of us. Before you sort of only got glimpses of the other sides in the first two seasons. Well now you start to see all of our varies dimensions and no one is all good or all bad. I think you really get to see that this season.
UrbanBridgez.com: What made you originally interested in the role on Hit The Floor?
Kimberly Elise: James Larosa and the script. He came to me and really wanted to create this show. And was interested in flushing out my character, this woman who comes into and sort of forced into a situation. Because the love of her daughter. He and I both wanted something that would challenge me and give me interest in ways that I haven’t been before. So he created this charater that allowed me to really explore parts of my craft as an actress and a character representative that I hadn’t before. That’s what I’m always looking for, something fresh and new to allow me to do different things. He never disappoints me and I never know what he is going to ask of me in any given script. That keeps it really fun and interesting for me. That’s the promise that he made to me from the beginning. He said you’re not going to be some mom making toast for the kids (laughs), he said it’s going to be a whole other thing. That’s what I wanted, not to be a mom making toast…that’s real life, I wanted a character (both laugh).
