Alexis Glenn is an American singer-songwriter based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Her eclectic sound, accompanied by her sophisticated lyrics and graceful presence, reflects elements of various genres, including soul, R&B, jazz, funk and hip-hop.

Her debut mixtape, entitled “Irrational Illustrations at Heart”, will be released in February, 2014. Through this 8-piece ensemble, Glenn introduces herself as well as illustrates her passions, fears, vengeance and regrets.

Be Wary” is the first single to be released from the upcoming mixtape which you will be able to download at www.TheAlexisGlenn.com website as well as other downloadable music platforms next month.

“Be Wary” is written by Alexis Glenn and produced by Kebu. “This is the story of when we as humans depend on love to keep and make us happy, when at the of the day, only you can keep you happy”, mentions Alexis. “At times we are looking for love to save us, but ultimately only you can save you”, she adds.

“I titled the mixtape Irrational Illustrations at Heart because I think with my heart and never my brain, which causes me to act irrational almost all the time. It’s me illustrating that in songs, and that’s the real me. The initial thoughts, not the ones that have been rationalized,” says Glenn.

The lyrics explore themes of love, heartbreak, identity and healing, while embracing the inevitable changes life brings.

Her own story is the nucleus of her inspiration. Born with heart complications, Glenn was eventually diagnosed with sarcoidosis in 2012. However, instead of letting her condition stop or slow her down, she uses it as fuel for her ambition.

The following year, Glenn underwent surgery and had a pacemaker and defibrillator implanted in her chest to regulate her heartbeat. It was during this time that Glenn realized how blind she had been to life’s impatience, as she was motivated to truly start living and following her dreams.

“I speak with no backstage,” says Glenn, referring to sociologist Erving Goffman, “meaning I expose all of me in a song, even the parts I’m not so proud of.”

“Irrational Illustrations at Heart” reveals Glenn’s struggles, as you hear her pleading for life to wait for her in the intro and how she learns to accept life’s limitations in the outro.

A product of country-breeding and wholesome morals, Alexis states she simply wants to be heard and understood by her music. She wants to stand for and connect to the people who often feel misunderstood by their peers.

Glenn was musically inspired by artists, such as Sade, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Jill Scott and Prince.
