The Maze, available for digital download today via iTunes, is indeed an appropriate title for the newest release by contemporary Christian music’s premier quartet Ashmont Hill.
Lined with a collection of high powered tunes of praise and worship, the album invites listeners to get lost on a musical journey brimming with sonic twists and turns – a praise promenade only accented by the group’s intricately layered harmonies and vocal stylings.
With founding group member, musical mastermind Phil Thompson and producer Zenzo Matoga at the helm of production for most of the album, the result is a 14 song compass to a pure praise and worship session for listeners. Evidenced by cuts like the album’s lead single “Love Lifted Me” – which skyrocketed to the Billboard Christian Songs Chart’ Top 15 for a consecutive 18 week run – and the album’s anthemic title track “The Maze”, the album is decorated with declarations of dedication to the ministry of Christ.
Other notable numbers include “Ruined” – the Micah Stampley-assisted gem that glows as one of The Maze’s many highlights, “I Will Give You Praise” featuring the fiery vocals of Brian Bullock (brother of group member Wil Bullock), and “Gabby’s Song” – the heartfelt guest appearance from Phil’s 9-year-old daughter Gabby Thompson.
To commemorate the album’s release, Ashmont Hill is set to perform on TBN’s ‘Praise the Lord’ special tonight at 10pm ET/7pm PT. Moments before the program airs, the quartet will participate in an interactive chat with fans via a Ustream session presented by the net’s premier Urban pop culture website ThatGrapeJuice.net, in partnership with the web’s go-to news source for gospel music, TheGospelGuru.com.
