5H Entertainment announces the first season of the new web-based scripted comedy series, ON THA GRIND, will premiere Tuesday July 10th, 2012 at 10pm EST at OnThaGrindShow.com. ON THA GRIND stars Rory Arnold as a delusional up-and-coming R&B singer named J.M. Breezy who chronicles his never-ending quest for fame domination in weekly videos he posts on his website for his fans. Each of these fan videos serve as an episode of ON THA GRIND. The first season will run eight episodes posted every Tuesday at 10pm EST on OnThaGrindShow.com
ON THA GRIND features a polished cast and crew including Darryl Stephens (Noah’s Arc, Private Practice) as J’s roommate Lamar, Mirtha Michelle (Fast & Furious) as his on-and-off girlfriend Dani, and Stephanie Charles (Bones) as his sister Tamara. Steven Davis plays J.M. Breezy’s producer Terrence while Maile Fernandez plays pop diva Marbella Capri. On the other side of the lens is acclaimed director/photographer Logan Alexander, who serves as director of the entire first season. The series was created, written, and executive produced by Rory Arnold and produced by Huma Moid and Victoria Shamshoyan for 5H Entertainment.
“The show was written as a satire of the culture that has been created by You-Media where everyone thinks they’re already famous and has legions of fans hanging off of their every tweet,” says Arnold. “The concept was inspired by the seemingly constant stream of Facebook statuses and Tweets of ambitious artists about ‘making major moves, having ‘huge meetings’ and being ‘on tha grind.’ New Media have provided so many new platforms for artists to make themselves visible that it’s lead to a competitive narcissism of creating your own hype. This guy J.M. Breezy had a bit role on All That as a kid in the 90’s and now has this completely over-inflated understanding of his own fame and importance. He’s just moved to Los Angeles and is convinced he’s on the verge of massive international stardom, so he’s documenting every moment for his fans- who he calls ‘J Monkeys.’”
ON THA GRIND is shot in a uniquely interactive, web-based style that differs greatly from the television-format seen in most web series. “Our goal was to represent a character everyone seems to know a variation of in their own lives, and to do so in the most authentic way possible,” says producer Huma Moid. “J.M. Breezy treats this like it’s his own reality show the way real-life artists use U-Stream and video blogs to interact with fans. And as much as he tries to control every aspect, candid personal moments inevitably play out on-screen.”
Multiple interactive features will run in conjunction with the airing of the show. In addition to the protagonist’s Twitter (follow @TheRealJMBreezy) now being live, 5H Entertainment will partner with leading R&B/Hip-Hop e-zine UrbanBridgez.com which will host exclusive content leading up to the premiere.
