[Full Coverage] UB Attends NBC Upfront (Fall/Winter TV 2012 Presentation)

NBC kicked off their Fall/Winter 2012 lineup presentation NBC Upfront yesterday with a bang and UrbanBridgez.com‘s Josiah was in the house to get all of the coverage!

While stepping up the venue location (upgrading from the Hilton ballroom to Radio City Music Hall), NBC’s top execs first took out the time to explain NBC’s goals and ambitions of taking third place in primetime network war. Currently in fourth place, NBC’s promises to end with a “photo finish” ahead of ABC for third place. After breaking down all of the numbers, ratings and statistics; the main stars of NBC’s hit show SMASH took to the stage to perform a riveting number from last week’s episode. The performance included American Idol alum Katherine McPhee (who sounded great) coupled with a full band. McPhee’s performance ended with three out of the four judges from The Voice (Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo and Adam Levine) turning their chairs around. The crowd went crazy and NBC’s execs then dropped a major announcement regarding the future of the hit show. The Voice will now air twice a year and fans of Aguilera and all her crazy antics can expect to see season three return this coming fall. The great thing about this news is that NBC is ready to go head-to-head with FOX when X-Factor returns with Britney Spears and Demi Levato (recently announced as new judges).

Other highlights during the Upfront presentation included a new J.J. Abrams’ show called Revolution which definitely looks very promising. The show takes places 15 years after the world loses power. There are plane crashes, gang uprisings and the journey of a few characters trying to solve the mystery of the loss of power. Another highlight was Ryan Murphy’s new show, The New Normal. This show follows a single mother who moves in with a gay couple and becomes their surrogate. NeNe Leakes (who is seamlessly transitioning from reality TV to scripted), also has a reoccurring role and plays one of the couples’ assistant. This will definitely be a must-see show during the new Fall lineup.

After showing sneak previews to a slew of shows, The Voice’s reigning champ Jermaine Paul took to the stage to perform another rousing rendition of “I Believe I Can Fly.” Closing out with an honorable mention is the upcoming Meagan Good and Laz Alonso show, Infamous. In this show, Good provides a woman of color lead role (which is great to see on Primetime TV in addition to Scandal) as she goes undercover to solve her childhood friend’s murder.

Keep it locked to NBC this Fall, they have a lot in store!
