In just one week, the velvet teddy bear himself, American Idol Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard touches down in Minnesota to support one of the biggest events of the holiday season: the Miss Black Minnesota USA Scholarship Pageant (MBM), an annual ceremony that awards young women of color for their unparalleled academic accomplishments and strong leadership skills. Studdard will be a guest performer alongside other acts Mzuri Moyo and Wenso Ashby. The evening kicks off at 4:30pm on Saturday December 3rd, with a Red Carpet reception at the Hopkins High School Auditorium in Minnetonka. With several young girls vying for an opportunity to wear a 2011 crown from one of its 4 different divisions, the pageant is sure to be an evening filled with admiration and entertainment.

Studdard, who recently signed with Shanachie Entertainment, a label boasting such greats as Minneapolis’ own, Mint Condition, will be hitting the road soon in promotion of his new album, slated for release early 2012. The Miss Black Minnesota USA Scholarship Pageant seeks to nurture and educate its participants, a sentiment that is not far off of Studdards other activities that delve into health and educational outreach within the African American community. Apart from his support for MBM, Studdard is also an advocate for the non-profit Be Sickle Smart, an organization with a mission to educate people about potential health risks and sickle cell anemia.

MBM is a division of its parent company the Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant, an over 20-year mainstay dedicated to nurturing the “whole woman body mind and spirit.” Throughout the years, the national and local pageant continues to shine. Apart from the reward of training, mentoring and coaching women of color towards leadership, National winners have gone on to tour countries like Africa and South America, garnering them rich and educational experiences that add to their layers of attributes which help them serve as a face for women everywhere.
