UB Spotlight: Actress & Singer Tasha Scott Releases Debut Single “Gone”

One of UrbanBridgez.com’sTop 10 To Look Out for In 2011,” actress and singer Tasha Scott‘s debut single “Gone” is in stores & available on iTunes today! A featured track on the Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business Album (Knockout/Saguaro Road Records/WMG), recorded in support of their hit VH1 reality series. The R&B and Pop influenced ballad “Gone” marks the first time Tasha Scott has released a single as a recording artist.

Known to millions from the 1994 TV sitcom “South Central” which also included early acting roles by Larenz Tate, Star Jackson, the late Lamont Bentley and a young and fresh Jennifer Lopez! Later Tasha appeared on the hit sitcom “The Parent ‘Hood” alongside Robert Townsend and Reagan Gomez-Preston. With numerous other TV appearances, a very memorable role in the film “Troop Beverly Hills” & a classic Coca Cola commercial already under her belt. Tasha Scott is ready to return to her first love, music and come out of hiatus!

No stranger to the stage, Tasha appeared on Star Search at age 15 and later starred as Dorothy in the 1996/1997 US National Tour of The Wiz! Along-side Grace Jones (Evilene), Peabo Bryson (The Wiz), CeCe Peniston (Glinda) and Tony Terry (Tin Man). In 2009 Tasha told UrbanBridgez.com about that experience, “Knowing I actually did something that Diana Ross did, Stephanie Mills did and they loved me in this. This wasn’t a sitcom. It was wonderful, I would love that opportunity again!” Last year she accompanied her daughter Jamariana Tribble on the road as she followed in her mothers footsteps and toured with “Disney’s The Lion King,” she played Young Nala.

Now signed to Ray J’s Knockout imprint, Tasha has the honor of being the only artist outside of the Norwoods to have a solo single featured on the Family Business album. When asked recently by UrbanBridgez.com how she feels being apart of a special family album like this, Tasha told us “I feel very privileged and blessed to be part of the “Family Business” album. I’ve always had a lot of respect for the Norwood family. To be part of this album means a lot to me, because I can finally give my fans what they’ve been waiting for. I thank the Norwood family for this opportunity!

Tasha wrote “Gone” along with Samuel ss Simpson, Candace Moore and Robert Normon & it’s produced by Knockout Producers Lamar Tribble and Anthony Saunders. The lyrics flow together as smooth as butter. Tasha sings in the hook “All I can do is count the days, that you’ve been away from me – so far away from me. Don’t make me wait another day, I need you to come home to me. You’ve been away too long for me!” A song about missing a loved one while being millions of miles away. Tasha ‘s vocals sound incredible as she sings effortlessly lead as well as background vocals over the mellow smooth production.

Moving forward, a video is planned for “Gone,” expected later this year with her debut album scheduled to drop early next year. No official word yet on if “Gone” will be the lead single from her album. Currently recording what she calls a “classy universal sexyR&B/Hip-Hop album, that will include pop tracks as well. One guest appearance who may turn up on the album is by Tasha’s friend Brandy, “I definitely look up to Brandy. Brandy has mad skills on all of her backgrounds, she’s amazing!” Possibility of a duet? “She’s feeling it, She’s like let’s do it, you’re Tasha Scott! I’m like okay girl, let’s just get this stuff done (laughs). I love her though, you gotta love her!
