[update] UB Presents ‘Gay Boys of Hip-Hop’ February 21st

In the late 70’s a recording artist by the name of Sylvester made his debut, one of the first openly gay male artist who went on to release hit albums and singles like “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” & “Dance (Disco Heat)” which both landed at the top of the charts. Jermaine Stewart later emerged in the 80’s, his biggest hit was “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off.” Who was a former background singer for the group Shalamar before he signed a recording contract with Arista Records. Both contrastingly and as a flamboyant as they wanted to be received love, respect and success from mainstream music lovers and the industry as a whole. On February 21st UrbanBridgez.com takes a look into the new breed of black gay male recording artists and ask the questions, can and will it be done again and can it be done at all in Hip-Hop? When the special feature entitled “Gay Boys of Hip-Hop” – A Discussion About Gay Male Artists in Urban Music Premieres Exclusively on UrbanBridgez.com

The feature is a discussion dealing with the topics of gay male artists in urban music, acceptance from their peers, the stigma within the black community, black gay artists vs. other cultures who seem to have no problem being accepted in the current music industry (i.e. Elton John, K.D. Lang, Ricky Martin, Melissa Etheridge & Adam Lambert to name a few) as well as various other topics related to the subject. The goal is to find a common ground between talent and acceptance within the black community when it comes to supporting gay recording artists.

The artists interviewed for the feature include Tim’m T. West, a poet, emcee, scholar and the author of three books “Red Dirt Revival”, “BARE”, and “Flirting”. Bry’Nt, a hip-hop artist and actor who has released two successful mixtapes “Porn Star” and “Porn Star II: The Director’s Cut” and set to release his debut album “Bry’Nt Park” later this year. And Kevin “KAOZ” Moore, a writer, actor, slam poet, lyricist, and educator. Who last year released “The Tyler Durden EP & Mixtape” and his new album “The INtervention” will be released later this year.
