UB Blog: ‘Basketball Wives’

Basketball Wives, the new VH1 reality show, has caused quite a stir. The show documents the lives of current NBA wives, ex-wives, and ex-fiancées. The second episode, which aired on Sunday, was focused on Evelyn, former fiancé of basketball star Antoine Walker, and her birthday/independence party celebration. After being in a long ten-year relationship with Walker, she is now starting a new life as a single independent woman. She celebrates her birthday at a restaurant along with some of her friends and fellow wives of the show, but a conflict arises when she is debating on inviting former Miami Heat and Orlando Magic cheerleader, Royce, who caused quite a scene in the first episode. After being extremely promiscuous at an event that all the wives attended, the ladies felt as though Royce was giving them a bad reputation.

Evelyn decides to invite her, but was disappointed when Royce skipped out on the dinner portion of her party, and “surprised” her with a choreographed dance routine at the after party which then caused Evelyn to believe that Royce was trying to take the attention away from her birthday extravaganza.

The episode also focused on Eric Williams’ wife, Jennifer Williams, who has reached a point in their relationship where she does not know the exact direction of their marriage, claiming that it is “dysfunctional”. She supports this by stating that she is a victim of infidelity. Her husband “justified” basketball players who cheat by explaining that basketball is an emotional sport; therefore players need support off the court and sometimes that support is found “on the road”.
Interestingly enough, Shaunie O’neal, Shaquille O’neal’s soon to be ex-wife, was MIA in this episode. Her husband Shaq has been all over the Internet since the show has aired, talking about her new boyfriend Marion Yates, and the ridiculousness of her being on the show.

Basketball Wives invites you into the world of being an athlete’s significant other, by showing the perks as well as the downfalls of being involved with an NBA player. You can catch Basketball Wives at 10 pm on Sundays.Amaiya (UBGteam)

  1. Jennifer honey you better leave that trifling back stabbing trouble maker Evelyn alone and work on your marriage.. Why would you even want advise from someone who’s man after 10 years did not marry her… Always remember misery loves company and believe me she is miserable… like who would be stalking you Evelyn since you don’t even have a man!!!

  2. I really do think that Royce is not a threat to any of the ladies… it appears she is really a good person!!

  3. Its hard 2 believe such powerful athletes choose 2 have such TRASH as a few of the “significant other”and once u receive the title of an “EX” u shouldnt be apart of the show.
