Bay Area Music Legends Organize Benefit Concerts for Haiti

This is one of the most devastating earthquakes in modern times. We have to come together in solidarity and lead by example. I decided to offer proceeds from my upcoming “House Party Tour of Relief” in support of Haiti,” announced D’Wayne Wiggins of the R&B music group Tony Toni Tone.

Joining Wiggins and his group Tony Toni Tone is Oakland native Lenny Williams, Too Short, Erk Tha Jerk, The Pop Lyfe Project (an Oakland-based youth musical ensemble) and the Oakland Interfaith Choir. Congressmember Barbara Lee and Mayor Ronald V. Dellums along with many community organizations have joined in support of Wiggins to raise $100K in one week toward Haiti’s earthquake relief efforts. All proceeds from the tour will be donated directly earthquake relief efforts.

D’Wayne Wiggins’ House Party Tour of Relief with musical director Kev Choice will kick-off on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 7:00pm at Sweets Ballroom, 1933 Broadway in downtown Oakland. “The House Party Tour of Relief” will then begin a cross-country tour raising monies for Haiti. “This will be a treat for sure,” shares Wiggins. Two generations of artists are joining forces for the “House Party Tour of Relief.”

Hosted by Bay Area media personality Renel, Lady Ray of KMEL 106.1 and comedian Luenell, the artist line-up is growing fast as Wiggins continues appealing to Bay Area artists such as Keyshia Cole, Santana, Ledisi, E-40, Mr. Fab, Ise Lyfe, Latoya London, Jessica Holter and MC Hammer. Oakland City Councilmembers Larry Reid, Desley Brooks and Rebecca Kaplan, Richmond City Councilmembers Jim Rogers and Tom Butt have all pledged their support. Community organizations involved in the effort include Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA), Oakland Promise Alliance of Community Partnerships, Get Screened Oakland, AFACT, Inc., Full Vision Arts Foundation, African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame, Healthy Communities Inc. / Healthy Haiti, and the City of Oakland Arts and Culture Commission.
