Tank Discusses ‘R&B King’ & TGT with THE REAL

Today, Friday, Jan. 18, the hosts of The Real celebrate a Dry-Day Fri-Yay while coming clean with viewers about how well, or not so well, they did during their Dry January week.

Also on today’s episode R&B crooner Tank stops by to discuss his new single “Dirty”, whether he would be up for a TGT reunion, and his opinion regarding singer Jacquees proclaiming himself “King of R&B”.

Jeannie Mai: Singer Jacquees was claiming that he is the King of R&B. And I heard that you seemed to take some issue with it. So, clear the air. What’s your take on it? What’s your thoughts? What do you think?
Tank: First of all, let me say that I love Jacquees. You know what I mean? And in terms of who’s holding down the R&B fort, in the younger generation, he is. You know what I mean? That 25 to 16 right there, I don’t dabble in that area. Okay? I’m grown.
Tamera Mowry-Housley: Okay.
Tank: But in terms of crowning a king, like that’s tough to do because…
Loni Love: SO, he’s more like a prince, that’s what you’re saying, and not a king.
Tamera: Look at Loni.
Tank: I’m not gonna say that. I’m gonna let you say that.
Loni: I’m just saying!
Tank: Listen! The thing about that, the thing about grabbing titles and claiming them, it’s not bad to do that, but you put the pressure on yourself to perform. And if that young fella feels like he can live up to the challenge, then so be it. For me, it’s all a great conversation about R&B music.
Adrienne Houghton: Absolutely.
Tank: Right? Because I can think of ten people that could have said ‘oh, I’m the King of R&B’ and nothing would have mattered. But, this young kid Jacquees, who is hot, said ‘I’m the King’ and the conversation went international, went global. So now, I like it! Because they talking about me now!
